The Land Rover Freelander is a luxury all-terrain vehicle of the D segment produced by Land Rover since 1997. It is a five-seater with a transverse front engine and four-wheel drive. Some of its rivals are the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Infiniti EX, Mercedes Benz GLK, and the Volvo XC60.

Its production ended in 2014 and will be replaced in 2015 by Discovery Sport. 1

The first generation of the Freelander was conceived as the first sports utility vehicle of the brand, so it had no lockable differentials or gearboxes, but permanent 4×4 traction. The project of this vehicle was called Project CB40, which would have two types of bodies on three and five doors, and their engines were a 1.8-liter petrol engine and 136 hp, gasoline with six cylinders in 2.5-liter V and 174 HP, and two 2.0-liter diesel.

The second generation of Freelander, officially presented at the London Motor Show in 2006, is based on the Ford Mondeo and Ford S-Max platform. Its exterior design is very similar to that of the first generation, although they are two completely different models.
