I would like to enquire about our (it’s my husbands vehicle) Land Rover Discovery 2 Series purchased in 2004.

The vehicle has not been on the road for 2 or 3 years because it has a gearbox problem. We are trying to decide weather we should sell the vehicle for scrap or try and have it fixed and sell it. With it not being on the road for so long we are also worried about what other repairs will need to be done once we get it started/fixed. Engine was in perfect working condition it just needs a new battery. I think it’s got about 130 000km on the clock (roughly).

Not 100% sure what the book value would be on this vehicle if it was in perfect working order? Maybe R50K? We are relucent to spent R20K fixing it only to sell it for R40K/R50K. If we are lucky.

Would you be able to advise us on this?

Many thanks

Land Rover Discovery Models In South Africa

land rover discovery series 1As Land Rover’s response to the barrage of Japanese 4x4s infiltrating Britain during the 1980s, the Discovery 1 Series is turning into the first option for low cost off-road fanatics looking for a genuine classic 4×4.

Launched in the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1989, the Land Rover Discovery 1 utilized pre-existing Range Rover engineering. This incorporated the drivetrain, axles and suspension while engine options were amongst the much loved torquey 200Tdi diesel or a 3.5-litre Rover V8 engine. At first accessible only as a cool three-door model, primarily to safeguard the Range Rover, this model was promoted towards a more younger, less-reserved driver.

Land Rover Discovery Series 2The Discovery Series II range premiered in autumn 1998. Regardless of appearing similair to the Series 1 Dicovery, just one common body part was the back tailgate. Incorporated was the all-new five-cylinder 2.5-litre Td5 in-line diesel engine and a V8 4.0-litre instead of the 3.9 (the poor-selling 2L Mpi petrol model was abandoned).

A lot more remarkable road handling came thanks to Self-Levelling Suspension and ACE (Active Cornering Enhancement), however these were common solely on plusher generations. Additional driving aids were 4 Wheel ETC (Electronic Traction Control), EBD (Electronic Brake Distribution) and, especially, the HDC (Hill Descent Control) initially launched on the Freelander.

Land Rover Discovery 3The Land Rover Discovery 3 was manufactured from 2004 to 2009 and it was not just spacious and striking, but additionally boasted more technological innovation than its forerunner. The forerunner also stood a large amount of critique for its quality, and yes it demonstrates in the Discovery 3 that the British car manufacturer has acknowledged customer complaints by producing obvious advances in reliability and quality.
It wouldn’t be advised change from a driving small vehicle to the big 4×4 even though since it’s size and strength of its engines along with its road handling are characteristics all prone to make a novice driver’s job much harder.
Land Rover Discovery 4The Land Rover Discovery series has been around since 1989. Based on the Range Rover, it included a four-cylinder engine and intended to tackle Japanese 4×4’s. The present Discovery 4 model, replaces the Discovery 3 but nonetheless utilizes its foundation. Just one gearbox and engine is obtainable along with a 3L diesel engine paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox that does not only offer a great driving experience, however is likewise faster and cleaner.

The Discovery 4 accommodates 5 adults easily within its old-fashioned but lavish cabin. The brand new 8-speed automatic transmission supplies an excellent and smooth driving experience.
